Kindergarten:

We make every opportunity to take the NJCCCS for Technology and correlate them with Social Studies and Science units and create developmentally appropriate programs for each grade level.

  • Use basic technology vocabulary
  • Use basic features of an operating system – (ex: accessing programs, identifying and selecting a printer, finding help) 
  • Create and present a multimedia presentation using appropriate software.
  • Use a graphic organizer 
  • Identify and use web browsers, search engines, and directories to obtain information to solve real world problems.

  1st Grade:

  • Understand the rules of the computer lab
  • Discuss the common uses of computer applications and identify their advantages and disadvantages
  • Use basic technology vocabulary
  • Identify the parts of a computer:  keyboard, numeric keypad, monitor, tower, mouse, scrolling button, mouse pad, floppy drive, floppy disk, CD-ROM drive, CD, hard drive, speakers, microphone, volume controls, power buttons, printer, and scanner. Understand the difference between hardware and software.

  • Use a computer mouse to click, double-click, right click, and drag & drop. 
    Understand when to click, double-click, or right click.

  • Use basic features of an operating system: accessing programs, identifying and selecting a printer, finding help
  • Input and access text and data, using appropriate keyboarding techniques or other output devices
  • Use a graphic organizer
  • Produce and interpret a simple graph or chart by entering and editing data on a prepared spreadsheet template.
  • Create and present a multimedia presentation using appropriate software.

 3rd Grade:

The third grade curriculum continues to build upon skills taught in K - 2 and includes units entitled:

  • Then & Now - which focuses on a study and comparison of Native American cultures of yesterday with our own culture today.  Students will learn to use a word processing program to fulfill most of this units requirements.
  • Simple Machines – which examines different types of simple machines and how they are used in the real world.  In this unit students will be introduced to a spreadsheet application.
  • Rain Forest – Students will study rainforest plants and animals as they learn a presentation application.

In addition, at 3rd grade, we continue to build upon the skills covered in grades K-2; including the basics in keyboarding, how to save our work by creating folders in My Documents, and opening and closing programs, etc…

4th Grade:

The fourth grade curriculum continues to build upon skills taught in K - 3 and includes units entitled:

·   Inventions - Students will continue with their word processing skills, internet research and be introduced to a publishing application.  Students will learn alternative uses for a spreadsheet application.

·    Money, Money, Money - Students will continue to develop their skills in word processing, internet research,

·    Undersea Excursion - Students will conduct research and then expand on their skill from last year for a presentation on different ocean habitats.

·   Regions of the USA - Students will apply all of their skills as they travel to a different region of the United States.

 In addition students continue to build upon the skills covered in grades K-3; including keyboarding skills, creating and saving files in My Documents and scanning and skimming internet pages for information.

 5th Grade:

The fifth grade curriculum continues to build upon skills taught in K - 4 and includes units entitled:

·   Reporting the Weather - Students will conduct research on hurricanes as they publish a newsletter.

·   The Incredible Journey ( Solar System) - Students will do research as they extend their skills for working on a presentation of their given topic.

·    Creating Revolutionary War WebPages - After conducting research students will use one of the applications to create a webpage.

·     Biomes - Students will strive to use all of their skills in this unit which encompasses all of the applications they have been working on in their elementary career.
